THE BASICS:

WHAT: E.R.B. = Everson Royce Bar

WHERE:  Arts District, DTLA.

WHEN:5PM- 2AM daily, with the kitchen closing at 1PM.  And Happy Hour Mon-Fri 5-7PM.

THE DISH:

WHAT TO KNOW:  Despite being advertised as a bar, E.R.B is in fact, a restaurant with a bar in it. Don’t be fooled by the “bar” in the name, in flashing lights out front and a website advertising a patio filled with people playing bocce and sipping cocktails — but considering we came here to continue the Sunday Funday festivities and patio reservations were booked, we were slightly disappointed.

WHAT TO ORDER:  THE BURGER (w/ fries for $10 during happy hour) with just the bare bones on it:  prime beef chuck, Tillamook cheddar, egg brioche bun and a dill pickle.  I have been dying to try this place because the burger has been on numerous “best burger” lists since it opened and after trying it, we totally get it.  Juicy, tender and so much flavor soaked into only a few ingredients… and it’s a pretty decent size.  The grilled cheese of the day (approx. $10) was a delish alternative if you don’t do burgers.  The vegetarians of the group got the Flakey buttermilk Biscuits ($7) with honey butter and the Smokey Potato Taquitos ($8) with tomatillo avocado salsa, cilantro, queso fresco and pickled jalapeño — they raved about both.  Oh and then I had a spoon full of just the honey butter… so that explains that.

WHAT TO SKIP:  Nothing we ordered, so have a party and pig out.

SHOUT-OUT TO THE SERVICE:  It started off rough when the guy up front made me feel like an idiot for assuming we can just chill outside and drink a cocktail without a reservation, but then he made up for it by giving us all a glass of Rose on the house (which practically equaled a bottle so thanks for being an asshole, dude).  I’m a big girl who can take some ‘tude as much as I can give it (and if you know me, you know that I can give it) and I will gladly take some if it means a bottle of summer water fo free.

WHERE TO PARK:  Parking is pretty easy-breezy down there since it’s not overly populated yet, but don’t be that boring person who only has 1 drink.  We were happy to discover that our uber from Hollywood alllll the way down there was only $14 (split the fare with your crew and it’s practically free).  AND now with the Metro going all the way West that’s an option too.  Because there is so much to do and it’s a bit of a trek; you might as well make it a full day turned night and play it safe with rideshare.

WHERE TO SIT:  Make a rez outside.  If not, bar it.

MAKE A DAY OF IT:  The Breweries down there are WHAT’S UP.  Map out your own DTLA brew tour with stops at Angel City Brewery, Iron Side Brewing Company and Arts District Brewing.  And there’s a handful more if you can hang more than that (which would be truly impressive).  Then soak up all that brew with a final stop here.  Fun fact: by end of year the Arts District will have the highest concentration of craft breweries in all of Los Angeles.  So if you don’t do beer, you should probably figure it out and do beer.

TAKE NOTE:  Every Wednesday from 5-8PM is “Wine Wednesday” with a $25 flight of 3 wines with bites.

EDDR LIFE LESSON:  Don’t judge a book by its cover.  The “Single Burger” as it’s called has a boring name, sounds lame on the menu and doesn’t look appealing to the eye, BUT this ugly duckling has some major swan vibes.

A2 FINAL THOUGHT:  If I lived down there, the burger would be my late night bite go-to, but since I don’t, I’ll just have to make sure to hit it up whenever I am down there.  And from the way the development is looking, it’s going to be more and more.

Burger & beer me,

Alex
