A2 Rating Scale (out of 5):

THE BASICS:

WHAT:  A hott new rooftop with breathtaking views that already has town buzzing because it’s successful location in NYC- here we dish on Catch LA.

WHERE:  Central to most parts of town in West Hollywood on Melrose and San Vicente near the Pacific Design Center.

WHEN:  Daily 5PM – 2AM (grub stops at midnight because if this crowd eats at all, they’re only consuming liquid calories after 12AM).

THE DISH:

WHAT TO KNOW:  This place is STUNNING (just look at that magical entrance).  Pretty people, pretty views, pretty space… this place screams that LA scene you either love or hate or love to hate.

WHAT TO ORDER:  Start with the One Too Many ($14) with strawberry-infused Belvedere, lillet rose, coconut, avocado, rose and lime… and then order another (it has that name for a reason).  The Crispy Shrimp ($18) with spicy mayo was the best thing we ordered by far.  A balanced combo of sweet and spicy and lightly coated and fried without feeling so heavy. Considering how these types of places tend to be (big price, small portion), we didn’t feel ripped off by the number of shrimp per order.  Also, the pretzel bread that they bring to every table was so delish we would’ve paid for it.

WHAT TO SKIP:  Our excitement about the rolls we ordered ended in disappointment.  The Hellfire Roll ($17), while the better of the two, didn’t have as much flavor as it should have with ingredients like balsamic and pear.  The Summer Shrimp Roll ($19) with King crab, mango salsa and soy paper, literally, tasted like nothing.  So confused as to how, but it had zero flavor and it was sad because it was the roll I was most eager to try.  Then we decided to try the side of Sweet Potato Gnocchi ($10) at a seafood restaurant for some mysterious reason because it sounded good with crispy kale and coconut mushroom jus and it sadly wasn’t good.

WHO YOU’LL SEE:  With TMZ’s paparazzi posted out front, you never know who you could be rubbing shoulders with.  With a roped entrance and strict door management it has already become a place you need to “know” someone to get in (or make a 5:30 reservation on a Monday night) because it’s becoming an A-list destination.  Sadly we only saw B/C-listers, including a Beverly Hills housewife (Brandi) and Colin Egglesfield, but here are a few others who have been:  Cindy Crawford, Larry David, Sylvester Stallone, Larry King, David Beckham, Kardashian/Jenner clans, Hillary Duff and Victoria’s Secret models.

WHAT TO WEAR:  The website boasts a “smart casual” dress code but are you really not going to let in a tank topped Justin Bieber?  We think not.  But, if you’re not an international popstar (guilty), don’t show up in the following or that strict door guy will bounce you out: beachwear, athletic tops & t-shirts, casual shorts, flip flops… We get it, look good!

WHO TO BRING:  Your Sugar Daddy or Sugar Mama.  JK, but really though…

WHEN TO GO:  When you’re not that hungry and want to sip on fancy cocktails overlooking the city with beautiful people.

HOW TO GET A RES: They’re only taking them via their website at the moment and walk ins are not accepted. And considering there are barely any times avail ever, even a month out, good luck!

EDDR LIFE LESSON:  We’ve learned that in some instances, you shouldn’t show up to dinner hungry.  If spending $75 per person and not leaving drunk or full is OK by you, then you may have just found your new fav place…

A2 FINAL THOUGHT:  Before we even went, this place sold us with one word:  ROOFTOP (you know how we feel about them… L.O.V.E.).  There is a definite “cool” factor that is undeniable about this spot.  We’ll definitely head back for those cocktails and to take that out of towner who wants to eat where “XYZ celeb had their bday dinner”…we will also probably be eating at Zinque across the street first.

Good luck getting that rezzie,

A2
