A2 Rating Scale (out of 5):
WHAT: Croft Alley
WHERE: Melrose Place; a hole-in-the-alley (literally, we almost missed it).
WHEN: 11AM-5PM, Monday– Saturday.
WHAT TO ORDER: Tuna Melt ($10); simple with the most delicious, perfectly crispy bread. Also, the house-made yogurt & chlorophyll ($6), with berries & flowers is a MUST. Too pretty to eat– is eating art a crime? If so, we’re guilty. And the triple chocolate truffle cookies ($5). There were no complaints across the board.
WHO YOU’LL SEE: People cooler than you who: 1. don’t work (open 11-5). 2. dress/shop in Rag & Bone or other expensive stores on that strip. 3. drink $8 coffees on the reg from the neighboring Alfred Coffee & Kitchen. 4. hang out in Melrose Place. 5. people in workout clothes on their only day off (OK #5 was us — and we’re the coolest).
WHERE TO PARK: Anywhere the 6 parking signs per space say you can. Do you have a “permit”, will you be less than “15 minutes”, is it between “4PM and 7PM“… goodluck to you.
EDDR LIFE LESSON: Bigger isn’t always better. You know exactly what we’re talking about…
A2 FINAL THOUGHT: Here you feel like you’ve almost, almost, been transported to a quaint West Village spot (you New Yorkers are territorial, so apologies). What Croft Alley is lacking in space, it is making up for in creativity and character. They haven’t seen the last of us.
Science + food = so hott right now,
