PHILLY × TERRAIN

A2 Rating Scale (out of 5):

Ambiance: fork-knife-blk-whitefork-knife-blk-whitefork-knife-blk-whitefork-knife-blk-whitefork-knife-blk-white
Food & Drink: fork-knife-blk-whitefork-knife-blk-whitefork-knife-blk-whitefork-knife-blk-white

THE BASICS:

WHAT:  Farm-to-table seasonal American eatery/nursery/boutique AKA your new answer when people ask you “what are your favorite restaurants anywhere”.

WHO:  One of the first restaurants by the URBN INC. group (Yes, the company that brings you Free People, Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie — now about to take over the food world?).

WHERE:  Glen Mills, PA; just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown Philly.

WHEN:  Brunch daily and dinner Wednesday- Saturday.

THE DISH:

WHAT TO ORDER:  The Breakfast Board ($20).  If I am spending that much on the basic bitch breakfast platter of 2 eggs, sausage link, applewood smoked bacon, potato hash, toast and a petit salad, it better be f-ing good; and this one was f-ing amazing; making me wish I could spend it again this weekend.  The rest of my crew opted for the Terrain Burger ($18); quickly devouring the entire thing.  Also, don’t decide to pass on the carbs, as the bread is baked fresh in a little pot and served with the specialty “butter of the day” (there is a God!).

WHAT TO SKIP:  I didn’t try anything I would tell you not to order; I’m pretty sure this place could serve me a rock and I would eat it and like it because everything else about this spot is perfection and I want no reason to not come back.

WHAT TO KNOW:  BYOBooze.  Apparently this is a common thing in the PA, so don’t forget to pack your poison.  I already wanted to stay a while minus the goods; if you add bottles of champs/wine in the picture they may never get rid of me.

WHO TO BRING:  Legit anyone.  Perfect for a first date or a BIG date (but really, I wouldn’t mind getting proposed to/married here — they do a lot of weddings).  Also, for friends and family in town this is an ideal destination to get them out of the city and into the countryside where the seasons are in bloom and it feels very East Coast.  A birthday/shower/any celebratory get-together would be beyond beautiful in the charming antique greenhouse, nursery and/or restored barn (that can accommodate up to 110).  If you don’t like it here, you’ve lost it and have bigger fish to fry… like, will anything ever be good enough for you?

WHAT TO WEAR:  You’ll want to snap lots of pictures, so keep that in mind.

WHY YOU’LL NEVER WANT TO LEAVE:  There is a full Terrain brand store, which highlights garden, outdoor living, house/home and gifts.  Think Anthropologie’s beauty X 5, with more nature and no clothes.  There is also a full service nursery where you can get all your garden necessities (flowers, soil, tools).  If you don’t have time to sit for a full meal, there is a Cafe where you can grab a quick coffee/tea and pastry to-go. They have a calendar of ever-changing appropriate events like pumpkin carving classes and “cocktails & tablescape” demonstrations.  On the grounds they have numerous fire-pits and benches where you can wander, relax, take it all in and enjoy the company you bring (or some alone time, if that’s more your thing).

IF YOU’VE GOT MORE TIME:  Since you’ve already made the 40 minute trek out of the city, you might as well make a day of it and hit up Longwood Gardens.  There are over 1,077 acres of gardens, woodlands, meadows, lakes, and greenhouses.  This place defines nature and beauty and along with Terrain made for the most perfect fall day.

EDDR LIFE LESSON:  A place can really have it ALL.  You may think at times we’re harsh (maybe even a bit bitchy… yesss we know it), but we CAN be satisfied.  It just takes a little more to hit all our spots.

A2 FINAL THOUGHT:  It’s no wonder my bestie, Colby, had already been back 3 times that month with people visiting the city.  The server recognized her and her boo (heyyy Ben) and couldn’t be any sweeter and attentive, giving it that small-town comfort vibe.  So after about 3.5 hours of eating and shopping and photoshoots, they had to drag me out.

Already planning to stay for brunch AND dinner (and shopping/exploring in between, clearly) next time,

Alex
