THE BASICS:

WHAT: Café Stella – a slice of France in LA

WHERE: The hipster part of town aka Sunset Junction aka Silverlake

WHEN: Breakfast/lunch/dinner – except Monday, they’re only open for dinner. And they’re closed every day in between 3PM-6PM. You know how the French roll — we need our naps people.

THE DISH:

WHAT TO ORDER: For breaky my favs are the avocado toast ($7) duh (yes sometimes I’m basic), the baked eggs ($11) with spinach and goat cheese, or the eggs benny ($13) served on a potato nest which is insane. And you need a side of breakfast potatoes no matter what because they’re to-die. For dinner, I always opt for the moules frites ($22) or the steak frites ($29) — do you see a trend? I love my frites.

WHAT TO SKIP:  I’m usually a repeat offender (aka I always get more or less the same thing) but I have never had anything that wasn’t good.

WHAT TO KNOW: Make a res if you don’t want to wait too long. Both brunch and dinner fill up fast. Oh, and put your breakfast potatoes order in ASAP — like even before you tell the hostess your name because they’ve been known to run out. That’s how good they are. And make sure you’re not with me when they break the news that they’re out. And Intelligentsia coffee is right next door so lucky for you, if you order coffee, you get the good shit without having to deal with the line.

WHERE TO PARK: Valet parking around the corner (not so obvious) or street parking around the ‘hood.

WHERE TO SIT: If you’re there for brunch/dinner, definitely OUTSIDE. There’s a small inside space but outside is where it’s at. If you’re grabbing a drink, they have an awesome bar downstairs with the cutest little outside terrace — that gets less cute when people start smoking and you can’t breathe.

WHO YOU’LL SEE: Just the coolest people. And some famous ones. And lots of French ones too.

WHO TO BRING:  I mean, if I were taken on a date here, done deal. But you can also bring your fam and friends. It’s the kind of place you want to come and just hang.
EDDR LIFE LESSON: The French do it best.

A2 FINAL THOUGHT:  Café Stella is definitely worth making the trek to Silverlake for.

Still not over them running out of breakfast potatoes,

Alie
