THE BASICS:

WHAT: Same Same (Thai Wine Bar).

WHERE:  A Silverlake Strip Mall on Sunset.

WHEN:  Thurs – Sat 5PM-12AM, Sun-Wed 5PM-11PM.

THE DISH:

WHAT’S THE DEAL: Same Same is a blend of two of our fav things: Wine Bar + Thai Food. You may not think the two go together but Same Same has proven that theory wrong. Deliciously spicy food washed down with cold beer or refreshing wine – why have we not thought of this sooner? Come visit and stay a while.

WHAT TO ORDER: The Pa Pia Sod (Fresh Spring Rolls  $8.50) with prawns, pork, tofu, bean sprouts, chive, cucumber, serrano and tamarind dipping sauce are a MUST and unlike any spring roll I’ve ever tried. More like a sushi roll without the rice, we were definitely on board with these bad boys. The Pad See Ew ($12) wild rice noodles with soy sauce, garlic, yellow bean, egg, Chinese broccoli and beef is also a must get. Have them adjust it to your spicy senses and then enjoy. We only wish more came in the order.

WHAT TO SKIP: Honestly, nothing.

THAT VIBE THOUGH:  The vibe is perfectly suited for a wine bar – dimly lit yet casual. There’s tables and bar seating and a back-ish room with high tops.

WHO TO BRING: Great for a date night or a girl’s get together. Also perfect to pick up and bring home.

THE SERVICE: While we won’t won’t knock too many points for our waitress’ lack of attentiveness — we don’t like when they’re excessively attentive anyway so there’s really no pleasing us. We will however knock points for when she accidentally put our dish down on someone else’s table and they stuck their (clean) fork in it before realizing that it wasn’t what she ordered. The waitress then picked it back up and gave it to us — ummmm NOT OK. Don’t you know the rule? Once you set it down on someone else’s table, you can’t give it to another guest — ESPECIALLY if forks have touched it. Lucky we were a glass in at that point.

WHAT TO WEAR: Because it’s the type of place many people order ahead and pick up from…say post workout on their way home…dress is super casual. That being said, dress for your own occasion — if you’re being taken here on a date, step it up.

WHERE TO PARK:  A lucky few spots in the strip mall or else street searching it is.

EDDR LIFE LESSON:  Sometimes you need to think outside the box. I wouldn’t think to put wine bar and Thai in one restaurant, but the joke’s on me because I was way wrong.

A2 FINAL THOUGHT:  While the food isn’t blow your mind unique, it satisfies your Thai cravings with all the benefits a wine bar has to offer. We’ll definitely be back — and maybe not on a Tuesday next time so we can really take advantage of that wine bar life.

Same same, but different,

Alie
